CAMP OBJECTIVES: The Steelers' season could hinge on how they play in the four (or six) games that Ben Roethlisberger is serving his suspension, and inasmuch, it will be interesting to see how they handle reps for temporary starter Byron Leftwich. Does Mike Tomlin give him lots of preseason playing time to ensure that he's ready for Week 1, or does he keep Leftwich largely out of harm's way as most teams will with their starters? With Charlie Batch still around if all else fails, look for the Steelers to take the former, more aggressive approach. Elsewhere on offense, Pittsburgh needs to make sure it has the receivers to complement Hines Ward, so the likes of Mike Wallace, Antwaan Randle El (ex- Redskins), Emmanuel Sanders (3rd Round, SMU), and Arnaz Battle (ex-49ers) will need to look sharp. The offensive line has some work to do after losing right tackle Willie Colon for the season (Bills castoff Jonathan Scott is the top candidate to replace him), and needs to find the best place for first-round rookie Maurkice Pouncey (center or guard). On defense, the biggest issue is in the secondary, where Dick LeBeau is hopeful that prodigal son cornerback Bryant McFadden (ex-Cardinals) and safety Will Allen (ex-Buccaneers) can make an impact for a unit that struggled without Troy Polamalu for much of last season.
